Review to our Vietnam Bucket List

Posted

About three months ago we were spending our first days in Vietnam and decided to create a bucket list of things that we wanted to see and experience in Vietnam (read the post here). We promised to give an update later how well we have managed to realize our plans so here is a small review to last months!

Vietnam totally exceeded all our expectations and we fell in love with the country completely during three months. Even though we didn’t manage to cross out all the things from our list, we did experience many amazing things that we couldn’t have even imagined. There are so many things to see in Vietnam that even three months wasn’t enough for everything. We are already dreaming of our next trip and look forward to exploring those places that we had to skip this time.

We are looking forward to doing some volunteering and already have some things planned – more about that soon. We would also like to find the best ways to get into the Vietnamese culture and see all the gorgeous places. Maybe we will buy a motorbike or maybe we will hitchhike or ride a bike through the country, who knows.

It was quite funny to read these sentences afterward because we actually managed to do all those things that we wanted to do in Vietnam! We had time to do volunteering both in Saigon and Da Nang and ended up buying a motorbike which we drove across the country. Thanks to that, we really got to see most beautiful places in Vietnam and meet many locals. We just wrote about our thoughts after the motorbike trip here.

Other things on our bucket list were spending time in Saigon, exploring the sand dunes and fishing villages of Mui Ne, Hoi An old town, Son Doong cave, visiting Dalat winery and the abandoned water park in Hue as well as visiting the mountains and rice fields of Northern Vietnam.

We had to skip the idea of visiting world’s biggest cave right away when we realized that it doesn’t only cost thousands of dollars but also requires several days of hiking in the jungle. Eventually we missed also other caves as they didn’t happen to be conveniently on our route. Next time we will definitely go to see the gorgeous caves, like Paradise cave, in Son Trach. But we did visit Vinh Moc tunnels that also turned out to be very interesting.

Cruising around Northern Vietnam remained just a plan because it happened to be the worst rainy season of the year. Next time we will hit the place in the dry season and make a long trip to Sapa and Ha Giang near the border of China!

We didn’t eventually visit the winery in Dalat but instead, we enjoyed the local wine in a good company and saw many other nice places. So we could say that we still reached our goal. We got to cross out all the other things on our list as we spend whole five weeks in Saigon and also visited Muine, Hoi An, Hue and many other cities.

After all, we can happily say that the last three months in Vietnam have been just awesome! We moved to new adventures one week ago when we flew to Malesia. We should probably make bucket lists more often as it’s so fun to get back to them later and cross out things.

We challenge also others to make a bucket list for your next travel destination!
